Earl of Listowel is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Ireland , named after the town of Listowel in County Kerry .

Until 1924 the Earls' family seat was Convamore House near Ballyhooly in County Cork in Ireland .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on February 5, 1822 for the Irish politician William Hare, 1st Viscount Ennismore and Listowel . This was already on July 31, 1800 to Baron Ennismore , of Ennismore in the County of Kerry, and on January 15, 1816 to Viscount Ennismore and Listowel . Both titles also belong to the Peerage of Ireland and have since been listed as subordinate titles to the earliest dignity .

His grandson, the 3rd Earl, received the further subordinate title of Baron Hare , of Convamore in the County of Cork, who belongs to the Peerage of the United Kingdom on December 8, 1869 . This title was linked to a hereditary seat in the House of Lords until 1999 .

The apparent marriage of the respective earl bears the courtesy title Viscount Ennismore .
