George Harris, 3rd Baron Harris

Baron Harris , of Seringapatam and Mysore in the East Indies and of Belmont in the County of Kent , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title was awarded to General George Harris on August 11, 1815 . From 1796 to 1800 he was governor of the Madras presidency and the British supreme commander in the Fourth Mysore War , which he ended victoriously with the successful siege of Seringapatam (1799) . The territorial dedication of the title refers to these victories, as well as to Belmont House near Faversham in Kent , the family seat of the barons.

Today's title holder has been his great-great-great-great-grandson Anthony Harris as the 8th Baron since 1996 .

The heir ( heir presumptive ) is the great-uncle of the fourth degree of the current title holder, Rear-Admiral Michael George Temple Harris (* 1941).
