Earl of Montgomery is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Award and subordinate titles

The title was created on May 4, 1605 for Sir Philip Herbert , the younger son of the 2nd Earl of Pembroke . Along with the earliest dignity, he was given the subordinate title Baron Herbert of Shurland , of Shurland in the Isle of Sheppey in the County of Kent .

On the death of his older brother, the 3rd Earl of Pembroke , the first Earl inherited his title Earl of Pembroke along with subordinate titles in 1630 . Both earl titles have been combined since then.

Estimated heir ( Heir apparent ) is his son Reginald Henry Michael Herbert, Lord Herbert (* 2012).
