Henry George Charles Alexander Herbert, 17th Earl of Pembroke, 14th Earl of Montgomery (born May 19, 1939 - October 7, 2003 ) was a British nobleman , and television, film director and producer .

Origin and education

Henry Herbert was the son of Sidney Herbert, 16th Earl of Pembroke, 13th Earl of Montgomery , and his wife Mary Hope. He received his education at Eton College and Christ Church College , Oxford. From 1958 to 1960 he served in the Royal Horse Guards .

When his father died in 1969, Herbert inherited his title including the associated seat in the House of Lords and the family-owned land around the Wilton House estate . In Hansard no speeches in Parliament by him are recorded. With the House of Lords Act 1999 he lost his hereditary seat in parliament.

Career in the film industry

The first film he directed was the drama Mally's Bay ( Malachi's Cove ) (1974), starring Donald Pleasence and Arthur English . With his second film, the erotic strip Emily (1976) with Koo Stark , he gained a certain fame. He worked mainly in the 1980s on various English television series and directed the film Crossmaheart (1988). As a producer, he was involved in the film Eine Sommernachtsliebe ( Feast of July ) in 1995 .

Marriage and offspring

On January 20, 1966, he married Clair Rose Pelly (* 1943). The marriage was divorced in 1981. He has four children with her:

In 1988 he married Miranda Juliet Oram (* 1962) for the second time. He has three daughters with her:

  • Lady Katie Herbert (* 1997)

Lord Pembroke died in 2003 and was inherited by his son William.
