Viscount Montgomery of Alamein , of Hindhead in the County of Surrey , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .
Award
The title was bestowed on British Field Marshal Sir Bernard Law Montgomery on January 31, 1946 , in recognition of the decisive victory in the Second Battle of El Alamein in 1942.
