Baron Longford

Baron Longford is a hereditary British title of nobility , which was awarded once each in the Peerage of Great Britain and in the Peerage of Ireland .

Awards

For the first time the title of Baron Longford , of Longford in the County of Wilts , was bestowed on June 29, 1747 in the Peerage of Great Britain to the House of Commons Sir Jacob Bouverie, 3rd Baronet , as a subordinate title to the title Viscount Folkestone , of Folkestone, which was also conferred in the County of Kent . His son, the 2nd Viscount, became Earl of Radnor and Baron Pleydell-Bouverie , of Coleshill in the County of Berks in the Peerage of Great Britain on October 31, 1765 . The barony has since been a subordinate title of the respective Earl of Radnor.

In the second bestowal, the title of Baron Longford , in the County of Longford , in the Peerage of Ireland on May 7, 1756 was bestowed on Thomas Pakenham . His grandson, the 3rd Baron, also inherited the title of 2nd Earl of Longford in 1793 , which was awarded to his wife Elizabeth after the death of the first Baron on June 20, 1785 in the Peerage of Ireland. The barony has since been a subordinate title of the respective Earl of Longford.
