Baron Marshal

Baron Marshal was a hereditary British title in the Peerage of England .

Award

The title was created on December 8, 1309 for William Marshal when he was convened by King Edward II by Writ of Summons in the English Parliament . He held the hereditary court office of the Lord Marshal of Ireland .

The title has been suspended since the death of his son, the 2nd baron, on August 12, 1316, since no legitimate heir has effectively claimed the title since then. Heir to the 2nd Baron was his sister Hawise († before 1327), wife of Robert de Morley, 2nd Baron Morley , whose descendants also carried the title of Marshal of Ireland.
