John Marshal, 2nd Baron Marshal
John Marshal, 2nd Baron Marshal ( August 1, 1292 - August 12, 1316 ) was an English nobleman and hereditary Marshal of Ireland .
John Marshal came from a branch of the Marshal family . He was the son and heir of William Marshal, 1st Baron Marshal from his marriage to Christian Fitzwalter. When his father died on June 24, 1314 at the Battle of Bannockburn , he inherited the English title of Baron Marshal and the court office of Marshal of Ireland from him . As a baron, he was never invited to the English Parliament and died childless as early as 1316.
His heiress was his sister Hawise († before 1327), who was married to Robert de Morley, 2nd Baron Morley . She and her descendants, the Barons Morley , never legally claimed the title of Baron Marshal , so this title has been suspended since 1316. However, the heirs continued the office of Marshal of Ireland.
