Baron Southampton
Baron Southampton , of Southampton in the County of Southampton , is a hereditary British title in the Peerage of Great Britain .
Award
The title was created on October 17, 1780 for the soldier and politician Charles FitzRoy . He had fought as an officer in the Seven Years' War with the British Army and had been a member of the House of Commons since 1759 and also deputy court marshal of Queen Charlotte .

The first baron was a male grandson of the 2nd Duke of Grafton . The title holder is therefore in the line of succession for this title and those who are subordinate to it.
The third baron's second son, Edward FitzRoy , was Speaker of the House of Commons. One line of his offspring bears the title Viscount Daventry .
