Baron St. Helens is a hereditary British title of nobility conferred once in the Peerage of Ireland and twice in the Peerage of the United Kingdom .

Award

The title Baron St. Helens was first created on January 26, 1791 in the Peerage of Ireland for the former Chief Secretary for Ireland Alleyne Fitzherbert . On July 31, 1801 he, who was meanwhile British ambassador in St. Petersburg, was also awarded the title Baron St. Helens , of St. Helens on the Isle of Wight in the County of Southampton , in the second bestowal . This time the award took place in the Peerage of the United Kingdom, so that a hereditary seat in the British House of Lords was associated with the title . Both titles expired when Fitzherbert died on February 19, 1839 without an heir.

In the third award of the title was Baron St. Helens , of St. Helens in the County Palatine of Lancaster , in the Peerage of the United Kingdom on 31 December 1964 the House -Abgeordneten Michael Hughes-Young awarded. Today his son holds the title as 2nd baron.
