Baroness Emma (Emmuska) Orczy (born September 23, 1865 - † November 12, 1947 in Henley-on-Thames ), actually Baroness Emma Magdolna Rozália Mária Jozefa Borbála Orczy de Orczi , was a British writer and painter of Hungarian origin.
Life
Her father was Baron Félix Orczy from the noble Orczy family .
Her best-known work is The Scarlet Seal (original title: The Scarlet Pimpernel ), a play from 1903, which was published as a novel in 1905. The story about Percy Blakeney and his second existence as "red pimpernel" was u. a. Filmed in 1934 with Leslie Howard in the lead role ( The Scarlet Flower ) and served as a template for the 1997 musical The Scarlet Pimpernel .
