The Orczy are a Hungarian noble family. From today's perspective, her best-known representative was the writer Emma Orczy .

The family headquarters are in the small Hungarian town of Gyöngyös .

The castle was built in the Baroque style at the beginning of the 18th century on the orders of István Orczy . Lőrinc Orczy , István's grandson, had it rebuilt in a classicist style in 1826 , giving it its current form.

On April 1, 1848 , the Honvéd met here under the leadership of Artúr Görgey , who presented his plans for the campaign against the Habsburgs and had them voted on.

In the palace park, which is as old as the building itself, there are around 450 trees. Among them are some yew trees several hundred years old . A tree hazel with a trunk circumference of 4.30 meters is famous , which is a record for Hungary .
