The Barralhaus is a building constructed in 1902 by Pierre-Marie Barral on the south side of the Simplon Pass . Barral was the founder of the Bethlehem Mission Society (SMB). With the construction he wanted to realize a holiday home in the mountains for the students of his mission society.
location
The house is at 1844 m above sea level. M. at the foot of the Hübschhorn on the Stockalperweg and only 120 meters southwest of the old hospice . The building has three floors and is 120 meters long.
The pass road, newly built by Napoleon from 1801 to 1805, runs 170 meters east of the building and higher up past the Barralhaus. At this point, today's pass road follows the old Napoleon road, which is already ideally laid out in its lines. For passers-by, an exit was built on today's pass road above the Old Hospice so that motorists or motorcyclists can stop and take a look at the Old Hospice and the Barralhaus.
present
In 2007 the building was sold to the Swiss Army . Today it is used by the army as accommodation for troops. The DDPS has planned to expand the accommodation from 2019 to 2022. The chapel integrated in the building will be retained.
