Location of the municipality

Simplon (formerly also talk shop , Valais German : Simpilu ) is a municipality and a civic community of the district Brig and a parish of the deanery Brig of the German-speaking part canton of Valais in Switzerland at the Simplon Pass road ( N 9 located).

To distinguish it from the Simplon Pass, the municipality is also called the Simplon Village . It is divided into the Simplon-Dorf, Egga, Gabi and Simplonpass fractions . The village is nine kilometers by road south of the top of the pass, which is part of the municipality.

history

The parish is first documented in 1267 and bears the patronage of St. Gotthard . The current parish church was built in 1725 and solemnly consecrated in 1736.
