The Bangladeshi national women's cricket team has represented the country of Bangladesh in international cricket competitions for women since 2007 . Since November 2011 they have ODI status . In 2014 they took part in a world tournament as hosts for the first time with the ICC Women's World Twenty20 .

history

The first tournament participation took place in 2008 in the Women's Asia Cup and the Asian Games . In the latter, the team managed to win silver at the 2010 and 2014 events . At the Asia Cup they reached the semifinals of the 2012 edition . In 2018 they were able to win the tournament for the first time. This victory was therefore of particular importance as the Asia Cup was firmly in Indian hands to date. The Bangladesh Cricket Board decided to reward this achievement with an additional prize of 2 million taka for the team. Biren Skider , Minister for Youth and Sport, promised to set up a special training academy for the team. The team was in ninth place in the world rankings in mid-2018. By hosting the ICC Women's World Twenty20 2014 , they were able to qualify for the first time for the Twenty20 World Championship. However, like two years later, they were eliminated in the preliminary round. At the Women's Cricket World Cup , the team has not yet qualified for the final tournament.

background

Cricket is one of the most important sports in Bangladesh. However, women's sport is much less developed than men's sport. So far there is no regional or national league outside of Dhaka. The salaries of women in the national team are also significantly lower than those of their male colleagues. The Bangladeshi internationals are also lagging behind compared to the salaries of women in other national teams. Appropriate support for the team has been widely discussed, especially since winning the Asian Cup.
