The Barrington Tops State Conservation Area is a nature reserve on Barrington Tops in the Australian state of New South Wales . The reserve is about 55 kilometers east of the town of Muswellbrook .

location

The Barrington Tops State Conservation Area was formed from the areas around Polblue Hill and the former Barrington Tops Crown Reserve . The Conservation Area lies on the Barrington Tops plateau . In addition to the Conservation Area, there are the two national parks Barrington Tops National Park and Mount Royal National Park on the plateau .

Nature reserve

The protected area, which was designated in January 2003, is 6,205 hectares in size. The protection of this Conservation Area is comparable to the protection of Australian national parks, with the exception that the mining of gemstones is permitted.

Emergence

The Barrington Tops were formed by the Barrington Volcano . The eruption of this volcano, which lasted more than 50 million years, caused a huge outflow of lava that covers most of the plateau. The lava solidified to basalt . In the field of Conservation Area are sapphires , zircons and rubies found.
