Barry Crimmins (born July 3, 1953 in Kingston , New York ; † February 28, 2018 in Syracuse , New York) was an American stand-up comedian, political satirist and author of, among others, Never shake hands with a war criminal .

Life

Crimmins founded two comedy clubs in Boston in the 1980s . Comedians like Steven Wright , Paula Poundstone, Bobcat Goldthwait , Kevin Meaney, Jimmy Tingle and others appeared there. His satirical writings and appearances placed the main focus on the need for political and social change.

In the 1990s, he exposed child pornography on the Internet.

Crimmins was a guest on the WTF with Marc Maron podcast in 2013 and on Stuart Goldsmith's podcast The Comedian's Comedian in 2016 .

He was also seen in a number of films and features, including Netflix produced the documentary Call me Lucky in 2015 , which is dedicated to his activism and has also appeared on Netflix in Germany. In 2016, Crimmins shot a special called Whatever threatens you for Pig Newton production company, which Louis CK runs.

He regularly wrote articles for magazines such as the Boston Phoenix .

End of January 2018 was at Crimmins cancer diagnosed, the consequences of which he died a month later at the age of 64 years.
