Barry John Hancock (born December 30, 1938 in Hanley , † September 10, 2013 ) was an English football player .

Athletic career

Hancock joined in 1954 as an amateur player from Birches Head RC coming to the then second division Port Vale . Although he signed a professional contract in 1957 with the club, which has now been relegated to the third-class Third Division , initially ran exclusively on the reserve team. It was only at the end of the 1960/61 season that he moved up to the squad of the first team and made his league debut under coach Norman Low , but did not prevail over the long term. Even under Low's successor Freddie Steele , who had taken over in 1962, he only remained a supplementary player. After 21 league appearances for the "Valiants", he moved to Crewe Alexandra in 1964 , who was relegated to the Fourth Division . Here, too, he was not a regular player, so he later moved on to non-league football with the Stafford Rangers .

Hancock was all his life connected to Port Vale as a supporter, at times he distributed programs in Vale Park .
