The Barry Sisters

Claire and Merna Barry

The Barry Sisters (yidd. די שװעסטער בארי) were an American vocal duo who performed Yiddish songs in pop music, sometimes jazzed, versions.

  • Claire Barry (born October 20, 1920 in New York City as Clara Bagelman, † November 24, 2014 in Hollywood , Florida ) and
  • Merna Barry (* approx. 1925 in New York City as Minnie Bagelman; † October 31, 1976)

began appearing as Bagelman Sisters on American radio shows in the 1930s and toured all over the world as Barry Sisters until the early 1970s, including the Eastern Bloc . They also performed with Mickey Katz , Moishe Oysher and Barbra Streisand . In 1963 - already known through songs like Bet mich a bisele and Beltz - they transferred to Germany to appear on television and thus got into the local pop parade . In total, they released eleven albums - the last one in 1973.
