Bart Staes

Bart Staes (born August 7, 1958 in Izegem ) is a Belgian politician for the Groen party . From 1999 to 2019 he was a member of the European Parliament .

Life

Staes completed his teacher training in Dutch, English and business in 1981. From 1981 to 1999 he was a group member in the European Parliament . In 1999 he was elected as a member of the European Parliament. He is a member of the Group of the Greens / European Free Alliance and the Committee on Budgetary Control and the Delegation to the EU-Russia. From 1999 to 2002 he was chairman of the delegation to the parliamentary cooperation committees EU-Kazakhstan, EU-Kyrgyzstan and EU-Uzbekistan and for relations with Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Mongolia and from 2002 to 2004 chairman of the delegation to the committee for the EU-Russia parliamentary cooperation.

In 2018 Staes was together with MP Norbert Lins rapporteur for the special committee for the EU approval procedure for pesticides .

Staes began his political career with the Volksunie party . From 1980 to 1981 and from 1984 to 1987 he was a member of the board of directors of the youth organization and from 1984 to 1987 a member of the party council, and from 1995 to 2001 he was also a member of the party executive committee of the Volksunie. Since 2002 he has been active for the Groen party.
