Brandon Walters

Brandon Walters (* 1996 in Western Australia ) is an Australian child actor . He achieved worldwide fame in 2008 through the role of Nullah in the film Australia by Baz Luhrmann .

Life

The Aboriginal Brandon Walters was born near Broome in Western Australia to Janie and Paul Walters. When he was six years old, he was diagnosed with leukemia . After spending a year in a Perth hospital , he was discharged cured in 2003.

While looking for an actor for the Aboriginal boy "Nullah" in the Australian epic film Australia , one of director Baz Luhrmann's talent scouts found what he was looking for in 2007 when Brandon saw Walters with his father in a swimming pool. Luhrmann, who Walters now already for an advertising campaign of the Australian tour operator Tourism Australia had cast, said "Our next leading man is about four-foot high, [with] long, sort of gold hair, and is boy on Aboriginal." Though Walters Having only seen a few films and had little experience in front of the camera, Luhrmann attested him a 'captivating, authentic screen presence' (“Brandon is a very capable young man with natural cinematic chemistry”) .

Leading actress Nicole Kidman and Baz Luhrmann set up an escrow account to secure the future of Walters. Kidman says: "I feel very protective of him ... [and] if the film does really well he's going to need a lot of protection"

Brandon Walters received a Satellite Award for New Talent for his portrayal of Nullah . He also received nominations for Best Young Actor at the Broadcast Film Critics Association Awards and as a Promising Actor at the Chicago Film Critics Association Awards .

The artist Vincent Fantauzzo won the Archibald Prize in the People's Choice Award category for his portrait of Brandon Walters in 2009 .

Brandon Walters now lives with his partner Kanishah and two sons in Broome / West Australia.
