Bartholome Widmer

Bartholome Widmer (born September 17, 1713 in Hundwil ; † January 20, 1796 in Stein ; resident in Stein) was a Swiss mayor and long-time member of the Small Council from the canton of Appenzell Ausserrhoden .

Life

Bartholome Widmer was a son of Ulrich Widmer, alderman, and Anna Nabulon. In 1735 he married Anna Widmer, daughter of Ulrich Widmer. From 1746 Widmer ran an inn in Stein. From 1747 to 1749 he was captain of the Lower Rhode of the Hundwil community, from 1749 to 1774 he was the governor and clerk of the new community of Stein. From 1749 to 1779 he held the office of the state builder and from 1774 to 1776 that of the state ensign. From 1776 to 1778 he officiated as governor, from 1778 to 1782 as provincial cap master and from 1782 to 1786 as governor. He resigned for health reasons. From 1747 to 1749, Widmer was one of the initiators of the separation of the Lower Rhode from the Hundwil community and the establishment of the Stein community.
