Bartolomeo Bellano

Bartolomeo Bellano (* around 1435 in Padua ; † around 1497 there) was an Italian sculptor , medalist and architect during the Renaissance .

Life

Bellano studied with Donatello , whom he followed to Florence . In 1464 Bellano went to Rome at the invitation of Pope Paul II , but returned to Padua in 1469, where he created his most important work, a marble reliquary for the Basilica of St. Anthony . In 1479 he and the painter Gentile Bellini were sent to Constantinople by the Republic of Venice . Bellano's last finished work was a bronze relief for the basilica of St. Anthony with biblical scenes. With all his own artistic skill, he was always true to Donatello's style.
