Life

His parents were Heinrich (Jindřich) Chotek von Chotkow and Wognin (1802–1864) and Countess Karolina Aloisie von und zu Eltz (1810–1862).

Rudolf Karl studied law and was at times a confidante of Crown Prince Rudolf . Around 1870 he became a member of the manor house , the upper house of the Austrian Imperial Council and later, like his uncle Karl Chotek von Chotkow (1783–1868), appointed Burgrave General of Prague and thus governor of Bohemia.

In October 1858 he married Maria Theresia von Auersperg (1837–1888). His son Jan Rudolf, born in Prague in 1865, died at the age of 19. A few months before his death, Count Chotek married a second time in April 1894, the young baroness Claudine Gudenus (1871-1949) from Gáad.

A personal letter from Crown Prince Rudolf to Chotek has been received from 1880, in which Rudolf, who is highly interested in natural science, refers to "unforgettable days ... in the wonderful Fruska Gora " and northern Hungary, as well as to the observation and hunting of large birds of prey and bears. After the Crown Prince's suicide, Count Rudolf Chotek (with Theodor Billroth and Hans Wilczek, among others ) got involved in a souvenir folder for the Archduke heir to the throne.
