Bartolomeo Trosylho

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bartolomeo Trosylho (in modern Portuguese Bartolomeu Trosilho, alternatively Torzelho , Truxillo and other variants) (* around 1500 , † around 1567 ) was a Portuguese composer of the Renaissance .

Life

The Capela Real in the 15th century

Bartolomeo Trosylho was born around 1500. Nothing is known about his youth and education. He is first mentioned in documents around 1532 as a singer and chamber musician. In 1548 he succeeded Francisco Rodrigues as Kapellmeister under King John III. In a reform of the court orchestra ( Capela real) , he decided that the Kapellmeister had to be a cleric , so that Trosylho was forced to become a priest at an advanced age in order to keep his position.

Trosylho died around 1567 during the reign of King Sebastian . His successor as Kapellmeister was António Carreira .

In the vicinity of the court orchestra there is also a musician named Pedro Trosylho, who was probably a brother or other close relative of Bartolomeo Trosylho.

Works

Although he headed Capela Real for almost 20 years , today only three compositions are certain and a fourth possibly Bartolomeo Trosylho.
