Willibald Steinmetz

Willibald Steinmetz (born December 3, 1957 in Hagen ) is a German historian and professor at Bielefeld University . His main research interests include the history of Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries as well as the history of concepts and historical semantics.

Live and act

Steinmetz studied history and Romance studies at the universities of Münster , Montpellier and Bielefeld. In 1990 he was at Bielefeld University with the work of Reinhart Koselleck 's work Das Sagbare und das Machbaren. On the change in political scope for action, England 1780–1867 doctorate. From 1986 to 1991 Steinmetz was a research assistant in Bielefeld, from 1992 to 1996 at the German Historical Institute in London. A Social and Cultural History of English Labor Law (1850–1925). Interrupted by substitute professorships in Cologne and Constance, Steinmetz was from 2000 to 2003 research assistant at the history seminar of the University of Bochum; In 2003 he was appointed to the chair of general history with special emphasis on historical political research at Bielefeld University, which Steinmetz still holds today. In 2003 Steinmetz also taught as a visiting professor at the International University of Bremen (now Jacobs University Bremen). From 2009 to 2010 Steinmetz was a Senior Fellow at the Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS). From 2015 to 2016 he was a fellow at St. Anthony's College Oxford .
