Bartosz Makowicz

Bartosz Makowicz (* 1981 in Złotów ) is a law scholar and university professor at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder) .

Life

Bartosz Makowicz completed his schooling in Żary in western Poland in 2000 , after which he began studying law in Münster . He finished his studies - only interrupted by a study visit to Paris at the Panthéon-Assas University - in 2005 with the acquisition of the first state examination in law. After his first exam he worked at the Münster Institute for Tax Law under Hans-Michael Wolffgang, first as a research assistant, then as an academic adviser. In 2008 he received his doctorate on a European law topic for Dr. jur. After his legal clerkship at the Regional Court of Münster , he passed his second state examination in 2010.

In 2010 Makowicz accepted the chair for Polish public law, including business and European law at the Viadrina European University in Frankfurt (Oder) and became one of the youngest professors in a German law faculty. In 2014, Makowicz founded the interdisciplinary Viadrina Compliance Center there, where projects relating to compliance management and integrity are successfully carried out. In 2015 Makowicz took over the Research Institute for Corporate Security and Security Economics (FORSI) founded by Rolf Stober at Viadrina and incorporated it into the Viadrina Compliance Center.

Makowicz has been involved in the global standardization work of the International Organizations for Standardization since 2015 . He chairs the "Compliance Management and Governance" standardization committee set up at the German Institute for Standardization , which is entrusted with mirroring the ISO 19600 Compliance Management Systems and ISO 37001 Anti-Bribery Management Systems standards, and leads the German delegation at the ISO meetings. The committee is currently reflecting the development of ISO standards for governance and whistleblowing.

Makowicz is a member of the German University Association , the scientific advisory board of the German Institute for Compliance (DICO) eV and other associations. He is a Senior Research Fellow at the German-Southeast Asian Center of Excellence for Public Policy and Good Governance at Thammasat University in Bangkok.

Since 2010 Makowicz has given over 100 specialist and guest lectures on various compliance topics at international meetings, congresses and universities in Germany and abroad, including in Bangkok, Berlin, Sao Paulo, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, Porto Alegre, Moscow, Warsaw, Quebec, Madrid, Paris, London, and many more

Scientific focus

In addition to public commercial law and constitutional law, Makowicz focuses on interdisciplinary compliance research. He is one of the founders of compliance as an interdisciplinary research field. In his works, Makowicz pursues the value-oriented approach, in which he places people, their values ​​and culture as well as communication at the center of compliance management systems.
