Baruipur is a city in the Indian state of West Bengal . The city is part of the Kolkata metropolitan area . The city belongs to the district of Dakshin 24 Pargana . Baruipur has the status of a municipality . The city is divided into 17 wards .

Demographics

The city's population is 53,530 according to the 2011 census. Baruipur has a gender ratio of 988 women per 1000 men and thus a common surplus of men for India. The literacy rate was 92.0% in 2011. Almost 89% of the population are Hindus , approx. 9% are Muslims and approx. 2% belong to another or no religion. 7.1% of the population are children under 6 years of age.

Infrastructure

The railroad is the main means of transport in Baruipur. The entire Baruipur area is served by Baruipur Junction Station on the Kolkata Suburban Railway's Sealdah - Baruipur route.
