Women's baseball world championship
The Women's Baseball World Cup is an international baseball tournament hosted by the International Baseball Association (IBAF). It takes place every two years in even-numbered years.
The first women's baseball world championship took place in Edmonton ( Canada ) in August 2004 , the last one in Viera ( USA ) in 2018 .
The record champions are the team from Japan with six titles won.
history
Before the World Cup, there was only one international tournament for women, the Woman's Baseball World Series. This took place for the first time in 2001 after the successful game between the USA and Japan in Tokyo in 2000 and was held annually. Gradually Canada, Australia, Korea, India, South Korea and Chinese Taipei joined the tournament. In 2002 the IBAF decided to hold a world championship for women from 2004. After 2004, the World Series became an all-American affair. The teams that had joined the World Series went over to the World Cup. The number of participating nations fluctuates between five (2004) and twelve (2016).
Attendees
A total of 14 teams registered for the various events, 13 of which actually competed. The teams from Australia, Canada, Japan, Chinese Taipei and the United States have participated in all seven previous events.
