The Basilica of the Sacred Heart ( Herz-Jesu -Basilika ; Tamil : தூய இருதய ஆண்டவர் பசிலிக்கா , French : Basilique du Sacré Cœur ) is a Catholic church in the south Indian city of Puducherry (Pondicherry).

The Basilica of the Sacred Heart is located in the south of downtown Puducherry on the Subbaiah Salai ring road (South Boulevard) not far from the train station. It was built during the French colonial period between 1902 and 1907 and was consecrated on December 17, 1907. In 2011 the church was raised to the rank of a minor basilica .

Even before the Immaculate Conception Cathedral , the Basilica of the Sacred Heart is the largest church in Puducherry. It is built in neo-Gothic style and can be considered a simplified replica of Notre-Dame de Paris . The powerful red and white coloring of the exterior is striking. The floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross with a 50-meter-long nave , a 48-meter-long transept and a choir . The crossing is crowned by an octagon . The south portal is flanked by two 18 meter high church towers .
