The Basilica of St. Therese of the Child Jesus is a Roman Catholic church in the Shubra district of Cairo in Egypt . In 1921 the Carmelites settled there and dedicated their chapel to St. Therese of Lisieux . The increasing influx of visitors and admirers led to the decision to build a large church. The foundation stone was laid in 1931 and the construction project completed in 1932. Since then the church has been under the Apostolic Vicariate of Alexandria . On July 8, 1972 it was elevated to a minor basilica .

St. Therese is visited and venerated in Cairo by Catholics and Copts and also by many Muslims, especially women. Hundreds of votive tablets attached to the walls of the crypt bear witness to this.

The metro station on line 2 at the basilica is called Santa Teresa (سانتا تريزا).

The Carmelites run two hospitals in Egypt, one in Alexandria and one at the Theresienbasilika in Cairo. Here 90 employees and 70 doctors perform around 10,000 consultations and 500–600 surgical interventions per month. People pay for it as much as they can. The medical devices come from France, Germany, Italy and Spain.
