Basilica of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus (Nandom)
The Basilica of St. Therese of the Child Jesus ( English Basilica of St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus ) is a Roman Catholic church in Nandom in the region Upper West of Ghana . The church of the diocese of Wa is dedicated to Therese von Lisieux and has the rank of a minor basilica .
history
In the course of Christian missionary work, the largest church in West Africa was built in 1934 in the land of the Dagaare . The 7000-inhabitant city of Nandom forms a Catholic stronghold in a Muslim environment. The stone church was completed with a two-tower facade with square towers and without helmets. The single-nave church in neo-Gothic style has a cruciform floor plan without a choir . The main nave is 63 meters long and 18 meters wide.
In 2008 Pope Benedict XVI. the church to the rank of minor basilica.
