Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (El Tejar)
The Basilica of the Immaculate Conception ( Spanish Basílica de la Inmaculada Concepción ) is a Roman Catholic church in the town of El Tejar in the Canton of El Guarco , Costa Rica . The church in the Diocese of Cartago is consecrated with the patronage of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Mother Mary and bears the title of a minor basilica .
history
The parish was founded in 1914. The church building at Parque de Tejar was built as a concrete structure in a modern architectural style with a wooden tent roof. A slender campanile with a high cross on top stands to the right of the entrance, a small clock tower on the left. In front of this is a portrait of Pope John Paul II. He gave the church the rank of minor basilica in 1985 . For the parish centenary in 2014, the basilica received a new altar with a relic of St. Josemaría Escrivá .
