Basso Island ( Spanish Arrecifes Basso and Islote Basso ) is a small island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It is located in Discovery Bay on Greenwich Island and is connected to the south coast of the bay by an underwater headland.

It was mapped during the First Chilean Antarctic Expedition (1946–1947). It is named after Juan Basso Crucero, warehouse manager on the ship Iquique during this research voyage. The English-language name has been established since 1968 and has been accepted by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee since November 3, 1971 and by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names since 1972 .
