Velimir "Bata" Živojinović (born June 5, 1933 in Koraćica am Kosmaj , Kingdom of Yugoslavia ; † May 22, 2016 in Belgrade ) was a Serbian actor and cabaret artist well known in the former Yugoslavia .

Life

From the age of 15 Živojinović worked as an actor. Sometimes he worked as an extra in an academic theater in Belgrade. First, he trained at the “Middle Acting Schools” in Novi Sad and Niš . After two consecutive failed entrance exams to the Belgrade Theater Academy, he passed the exam in 1954.

In the Belgrade Drama Theater he then took on every role that was offered to him, including women's roles or roles of colored people. At that time, Živojinović played over 300 performances a year. Later he was drawn to the film industry.

He got his first film role in 1955 in the film by director Novaković "Pesma sa Kumbare" and stopped acting. For the film "Tren" from 1978 he received an award in Moscow.

His most successful films up to this point were those from the collaboration with the director Petrović. At that time in the Balkans the highest award for an actor was the "Zlatna Arena" at the film festival in Pula , which he received five times.

He played up to ten roles a year and also financed his own projects; He only turned down roles when he was overworked. Živojinović was temporarily president of the Brotherhood of Serbian Actors and also took over fixed roles in planned television series and soaps. He played either the main role or an important supporting role.

Since 2007 he has been less active and has only taken on less strenuous roles. For his life's work he received the honorary award “Sedmojulska nagrada” (“Award of July 7th”).

A quote from him: “Don't keep asking me which of my films is my favorite! I haven't seen any of my films yet. "
