Batam is a city with around 1.1 million inhabitants in Indonesia , which is located on the island of the same name, Batam, immediately south of Singapore . The islands of Rempang and Bulan also belong to the urban area of Batam. Hang Nadim Airport is located in the east of the urban area . Batam belongs to the trinational growth triangle and benefits in particular from its proximity to Singapore.

history
Batam is one of the fastest growing cities in Indonesia; Sometimes it is even described as the city with the world's highest population growth. The city was only founded in 1983, when around 43,000 people lived in the area. In 2002 there were already over 500,000 inhabitants, in 2012 over 1 million.
