The Hang Nadim International Airport ( Indonesian Bandara Internasional Hang Nadim , IATA : BTH , ICAO : Widd ) is the commercial airport of the city of Batam on the Indonesian island of Batam .
The airport benefits from its proximity to the emerging city-state Singapore in the growth triangle Sijori (ger .: Sijori Growth Triangle) and was originally as a secondary target for Changi Airport in Singapore planned. Part of the area is used by the Indonesian Air Force as a military airfield .
Batam has the longest runway in Indonesia, which is also longer than that of Singapore Airport. The site is in the east of Batam.
Military use
The Air Force, Tentara Nasional Indonesia - Angkatan Udara (TNI-AU), opened an advanced base on the area in 2019, which is equipped to operate its Mk. 109 and Mk.209 series Hawk fighter aircraft.
Civil use
With the growth of tourism on Batam and the Riau Islands , the occupancy rate of the airport is growing: in 2006 3,300,000 passengers were handled, the expansion target is 8,300,000 passengers.
International destinations are Kuala Lumpur and Jeddah (as places of the Muslim pilgrimage Hajj ).
National destinations are Jakarta , Surabaya and Bandung on Java , Pekanbaru , Padang , Jambi and Medan on Sumatra , Pontianak on Borneo and Natuna on the islands of the same name in the South China Sea .
