The Bath Abbey (Engl. The Abbey Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Bath ) is an Anglican parish church in Bath , England , which was once the great church of a Benedictine monastery was.
history
Bath Abbey was completed in 1156. It was badly damaged in the 13th century and rebuilt in the 16th century. The cathedral of the Diocese of Bath and Wells went to the English royal house after the Supreme Act and the subsequent solution of the English Church from Rome. In 1574 the English Queen Elizabeth I initiated a restoration that lasted until 1611. From 1583 the former abbey and cathedral was used as the parish church of Bath. Further restorations were carried out in 1860–1877 under the architect George Gilbert Scott .
In 1999 the 500th anniversary of the church was celebrated.

The church is built in the shape of a Latin cross and can accommodate about 1200 people. It is 67 m long and 22 m wide, including the aisles . The main nave is 24 m high. Ten bells hang in the 49 m high tower above the crossing .
The large window above the high altar shows 56 scenes from the life of Jesus Christ .
