The Bather Siel ( Dutch Bathse Spuisluis ) and the Bather Sielkanal (Dutch Bathse Spuikanaal ) were created near Bath, a place within the municipality of Reimerswaal in the Dutch province of Zeeland , in order to drain excess water from the Volkerak and Mariekzaatsmeer . They are part of the Delta Plan .

The system consists of a sluice and an eight-kilometer canal that runs parallel to the Scheldt-Rhine Canal . The canal begins on the Oosterschelde and ends at the sluice near Bath on the Westerschelde . Up to 8.5 million m³ per day can be fed into the Westerschelde through the canal. The canal is 140 meters wide and seven meters deep. Construction began on the Siel in 1980 and on the canal in 1982. In September 1987 the sewer was put into operation.
