Battenhofen

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Battenhofen was a village in the southern Hunsrück at the height between the Fischbachtal and the Hahnenbachtal .

Archaeological finds from the 2nd century in the area of the settlement of Battenhofen attest to Roman settlements. In 966 the place was first mentioned as Bettonforst, when Emperor Otto I confirmed a donation from the year 961 to Archbishop Dietrich von Trier . Until the family died out in 1642, the Battenhof was a fief of the nobles von Schwarzenberg. After that, the settlement fell desolate. The land was partly barren and partly cultivated by the farmers of the surrounding villages. This led to constant disputes from 1690 onwards, so that in 1796 two thirds of the Battenhofen district was split up to Breitenthal and one third to Wickenrodt .

The location of the former place is marked by a memorial stone from the Herrstein Association from 1983.
