The Battlefield Band is a folk band from Scotland .

The name of the band , founded in Glasgow in 1969 , refers to the Battlefield district in Glasgow, from which the band's founding members came.

history

The band's origins date back to 1969 when Brian McNeill and Alan Reid got together to make music. From 1974 the music became more professional, and in 1975 the French label Arfolk released the first album. There have been numerous line-up changes in the history of the band. Alan Reid left the band as the last founding member in 2010. Some former band members like John McCusker have started successful solo careers.

stylistics

The motto of the band is "Forward With Scotland's Past" (German: Forward with Scotland's past ). Therefore, the group combines traditional Scottish music with their songs and instrumentals with newer styles. The instrumentation is reflected in it: from traditional instruments such as bagpipes , violin , concertina to synthesizers .
