history

In 1929, Bruno Bauerfeind (1882–1944) founded a rubber knitting factory in Zeulenroda , East Thuringia , which his son Rudolf (1909–1998) took over in 1945. In 1949 the Bauerfeind family emigrated to West Germany because of the anti-business policies in the Soviet occupation zone . Rudolf Bauerfeind began to rebuild the company in Darmstadt-Eberstadt . In 1972, his son Hans B. Bauerfeind took over the Diedrich Grote Nachsteiger company in Kempen , a manufacturer of orthopedic bandages, and made it the headquarters of Bauerfeind GmbH in 1978 . Starting in 1984, own sales companies were founded in Europe and overseas. After the reunification of Germany , the company returned to Zeulenroda and built a new production facility there. In 1996 the company Globus K. Kremendahl ( Remscheid ) was acquired. In 1997 Bauerfeind Holding GmbH was founded and in 2002 Bauerfeind AG was founded. In 2004 the new administration building, the Bauerfeind Tower , was inaugurated in Zeulenroda. In 2008 the company announced that it would close its Kempen plant by the end of the year and concentrate the production of the bandages in Zeulenroda-Triebes. Since 2009, Bauerfeind has been producing at its second location in Remscheid (North Rhine-Westphalia), in addition to its headquarters in Zeulenroda. The medical aids are therefore "Made in Germany" and some of them are handcrafted. Dirk Nowitzki has been the company's global brand ambassador since January 2016 . In 2018 a further production hall was opened on the company premises in Zeulenroda-Triebes and since the beginning of 2019 another production facility has been prepared in Gera to further expand production capacities.
