Theme and equipment

The game is about preventing different animal children from running away from a farm. The players try to catch them together and bring them back to the barn. In addition to game instructions, the game material consists of eight wooden animals, a cube, a barn, a set of 40 cards and a starting game board, on which eight lanes are laid out.

Style of play

Before the game, the playing field is built from the central game board and the eight path strips. The first path field of the respective path must never have the same color as the field on the central playing field. The eight wooden animals are placed on the eight starting fields and the barn in the middle of the playing field. The cards are shuffled and placed face down next to the playing field.

The pieces are advanced according to the color of the dice.

The game is played clockwise, starting with a starting player. The active player takes the dice and throws it. If he shows a color, all animals in front of a field of this color are moved to this field. If the die shows the farmer, any animal can be moved back one space, and if it shows the dog, an animal is brought back to the barn on the starting space. After rolling the dice, the players reveal a card. Here, too, there are various options for action: If the card shows an animal, it moves one space forward. If it is a lock card for an animal species, such as a carrot for the horse, the corresponding animal is set back one space. If the farmer is revealed, any animal can be moved back one space and any animal can be brought back to the barn for the dog.

The game ends when all cards have been used up. If no animal has left the last path space at this point, the other players win. On the other hand, if an animal got out of the field, they lost.

The game Farm Gang was developed by the game designer Justin Lee and was published by Haba in 2019 in a multilingual version in German, Dutch, French, English, Italian and Spanish. HABA published it in different packaging for different countries. The game was included in the list of recommendations for the children's game of the year critics award in the year of publication .
