The Burum mistletoe ( Dicaeum erythrothorax ) is a species of bird from the mistletoe eater family (Dicaeidae).
The Latin additional species comes from ancient Greek ἐρυθρός erythros , German 'red' and ancient Greek θωραξ thorax , German 'breast' .
In the past, the species described here and the Halmaheramistelfresser ( Dicaeum schistaceiceps ) were regarded as conspecific and referred to as the Flame Breast Mistletoe . In 2007, the species were Burumistelfresser and Halmaheramistelfresser separated as a distinct species.
The bird is endemic to the Moluccas and is only found on the island of Buru .
The distribution area includes tropical or subtropical moist forest areas up to 1100 m height.
features
The bird is 9 cm tall. The head is dark gray, shiny green, the throat white, and the chest has a large, bright red spot. The top is olivaceous, the rump yellow-green, the elytra and primaries are dark brown with a wide olive-colored border. The medium-length tail has a wide black end band.
The species is monotypical .
voice
The call of the male is described as equally high tones that follow at different speeds.
Way of life
No information is available on food.
The breeding season is probably in October or November, the nest is an oval approximately 9 × 5.5 cm large pocket.
Hazardous situation
The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
