The mistletoe eaters (Dicaeidae), also called flower pickers , are a family in the order of the passerine birds (Passeriformes). The family includes 45 species in two genera.

Mistletoe eaters are found predominantly in New Guinea and the Philippines . The rest of the distribution area extends from India via China to the southern area of Australasia . They live in pairs or in small groups in the trees, gardens or in bushes.

The mistletoe eaters, which are faithful to their location, are small birds with short legs and tails. The sexes hardly differ in the inconspicuous plumage. In some species, the male has luminous plumage. The short beaks, which vary from species to species, are serrated. This will likely help them eat sticky fruit. The tube-shaped tongue makes it easier for the birds to take in nectar . In addition to nectar, they feed on berries and fruits and devour the flower-seeking insects and spiders . The yellow berries of the belt flower plant Loranthus longiflorus are preferred . The mistletoe eaters are important for the spread of the seeds.

Their bag-shaped nests, which have a side entrance, are hung on the branches of the trees. Various plant fibers and cobwebs are used as material. The clutch consists of two to four eggs.
