The yellow-bellied mistletoe ( Dicaeum melanoxanthum , syn. Dicaeum melanozanthum ) is a species of bird from the mistletoe- eater family (Dicaeidae).
The Latin additional species comes from ancient Greek μελας melas , German 'black' and ancient Greek ξανθος xanthos , German 'yellow' .
The bird is found in the eastern Himalayas from Nepal via northeast India , southwest China , Myanmar to Vietnam .
The distribution area includes temperate , tropical or subtropical forests and moist mountain forests up to 2500 m altitude.
features
The bird is 11-13 cm tall, the head and top are slightly shiny slate gray to bluish-black, the top of the wings and tail are black, the two outer tail feathers have a large white spot. The beak is large and strong, the neck and throat are white, a dark chest band delimits the yellow underside. The female is brown to gray.
The species is monotypical .
voice
The call of the male is described as an excited "zit-zit-zit-zit".
Way of life
The diet consists mainly of insects , probably also of fruits , nectar and pollen .
The breeding season is between April in Myanmar, June in India and July in Nepal. Usually three white eggs are laid.
Hazardous situation
The stock is not considered to be at risk ( least concern ).
