The Messner farm is a farm in the Ganz fraction of the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol . Together with the neighboring Klabiner farm, the farm forms a rural ensemble. The Messnerhof is one of the community's 42 properties under monument protection ( list entry ). The Messnerhof's granary was also separately protected by the Federal Monuments Office ( list entry ).

Location and ensemble

The Messner farm is located in the Ganz fraction, which is southwest of the Matreier market. The farm itself was built north of or just below the St. Nikolaus branch church . To the west of the Messnerhof (Ganz No. 15) is the Klabiner Farm (Ganz No. 14), a pair of courtyard with a well house, and a little to the north is the House of Ganz No. 17. The Messnerhof consists of a farm and an associated grain bin.

Building

The Messner farm, like the neighboring Klabinerhof, was a free estate of the Matreier parish until the abolition of the manor . The sculptor Virgil Rainer was born here in 1871 . The building itself is a massive single courtyard in mixed construction, which was built in 1798 and extended in 1865. The transversely divided courtyard with a courtyard crossing the first ridge between the living and business area is protected by a plank-covered purlin roof . In the two-storey courtyard, which was built perpendicular to the slope, the residential part was arranged on the valley side and designed as a central floor plan , the slope-side farm part was later converted for residential purposes. In the living room of the farm there is neo-Gothic paneling from 1898 and a brick-built barrel oven.

The Messnerhof's granary is a single-storey, cube-shaped block structure with a plank-covered purlin roof and a plank door on the eaves. It was probably built in the 18th century on a dry stone foundation.
