The Widum Matrei in Osttirol is the rectory of the parish Matrei in Osttirol and the Matrei parish church . The building dates back to a construction from the 14th century and dates from the 18th century. The Matrei Widum is one of the 42 listed objects in the municipality of Matrei in East Tyrol ( list entry ).

Building

The Widum is located southeast of the Matrei parish church, with the Matrei cemetery between the Widum and the parish church . An economic outbuilding also belongs to the Widum.

The original rectory was probably built in the 14th century, as evidenced by a stone with the year 1326. In 1676 the dilapidation of the building is documented. In the course of the new construction of the Matrei parish church, the old Widum was also demolished and rebuilt between 1735 and 1739 according to plans by Tobias Kendler and Mathias Kohen. In 1743 the roof structure was built. While large parts of Matreis were destroyed in a fire in 1897, the Widum remained almost undamaged. Around 1960 the construction of an outbuilding followed, between 1966 and 1968 the extensive restoration and modernization of the rectory.

The rectory protected by a hipped roof is a massive, three-story cube with a rectangular floor plan. The facades of the building are adorned with frescoes from the third quarter of the 18th century and yellow, illusionistic architectural painting. Between the windows there are symbolic representations of the four cardinal virtues , above the portal the representation of Mary with child and above the coat of arms of the Salzburg bishop Sigismund III. Christoph von Schrattenbach .

The rectory is furnished with several sculptures, paintings and sacred objects. Among them are the figure of a Maria with child made of linden wood from around 1340/50, a Mariahilf picture from 1644, a chalice from the beginning of the 15th century and a letter of indulgence from Pope Julius III.
