Courtney Thompson (born November 4, 1984 in Bellevue , Washington ) is an American volleyball player . She won the Olympic silver medal in 2012, became world champion in 2014 and won the Olympic bronze medal in 2016.

Career

Thompson began her career at Kentlake High School in Kent, Washington . She graduated from the top of the class. During her studies, she played on the University of Washington team from 2003 to 2006 . In January 2007, the setter made her debut in the US national team , with which she took part in the Grand Prix and reached third place at the Pan American Games . In 2008 she first played in Puerto Rico at Las Gigantes de Carolina before moving to the Swiss first division club Volley Köniz . In 2009 Thompson won the Swiss championship with Köniz. Internationally, she was back at the 2009 Grand Prix and became NORCECA champion with the US team . In 2010 she was first with Lancheras de Cataño and then with the Austrian association SVS Post Schwechat . She won the national championship with Schwechat in 2011. Internationally, there was again a bronze medal for her at the Pan American Games . In 2012, Thompson became a Puerto Rican Master when she returned to Lancheras de Cataño. She won the 2012 Grand Prix with the national team . She then took part in the Olympic Games in London and won the silver medal. From 2013 to 2015 she played with Volero Zurich in the highest Swiss league and won the Swiss double twice.
