Peasant stone
Bauernstein with surroundings

The Braschwitz Bauernstein is a court stone in the town of Landsberg in the Saale district in Saxony-Anhalt . The small monument is under monument protection and is registered both in the monument register (registration number 094 70212) and in the ground monument register (monument ID 428300507).

Peasant stones are mostly flat on the top so that the head of the village assembly could stand on them and read out certificates and other documents. In addition, minor legal disputes were resolved at these points and decisions were made that affect the community, such as the employment of shepherds. Around him sat the representatives of the village, the number of whom varied according to the size of the village. The rest of the residents surrounded them with a circle that "enclosed" the negotiation or assembly. Such an ensemble has been preserved in Braschwitz , where both the central peasant stone and the stones of the "assessors" have been preserved.

In Braschwitz, this monument to legal history is located on the northeast side of the central village square next to a transformer house on Brunnenstrasse. This takes its name from the neighboring village well of the place, which is now covered by a concrete slab. In 1913, the transformer house replaced a court linden, which is said to have had a collar on it. These are also typical elements of village jurisdiction. The central stone is 120 centimeters long, 100 centimeters long and protrudes 25 centimeters above the ground. The misshapen stones of the assessors - probably boulders - are made of granite porphyry . Manfred Thon suspects a Germanic thing site here that was continuously used.
